The Brief: This piece was inspired by a prompt by GoodType, an online lettering community, to create a lettering piece about a location, as a personal project.
Role: Graphic designer and illustrator responsible for concept, design, and implementation of all lettering and illustration.
Tools Used: Pen and ink, paper, Adobe Illustrator.
This piece is one of a series of location-specific illustrations to celebrate the midwest and Chicago area. While I didn’t grow up in the midwest, I do feel that I am a midwestern girl and love to celebrate the area. This piece is a combination of digital and hand-drawn elements, with the lettering being hand-drawn with ink on paper and scanned into the computer. The heart and midwest states were all created on the computer using Adobe Illustrator, and the text, once vectorized, was combined with the heart and map elements to create the final digital piece. This piece is perfect for products, such as t-shirts, home decor, and mugs!
