Curiouser & Curiouser: An editorial illustration inspired by Alice in Wonderland with hand-drawn lettering and story book illustration.

The Brief: As a personal project, create a series of illustrations inspired by the book Alice in Wonderland

Role: illustrator and lettering artist responsible for concept, design, and implementation of all lettering and illustration.

Tools Used: Procreate app, iPad Pro, Apple pencil.

After attending the an exhibit on Alice in Wonderland at the V&A Museum in London in summer 2021, I was very inspired by the story and imagery. I reread the books and created this series of illustrations. The first, Curiouser & Curiouser, was sketched out in Hyde Park after leaving the exhibit and then I later brought it into Procreate and created a full-color editorial illustration of it. I also was very inspired by the idea of the vial of elixir that caused Alice to shrink, and the little cake that caused Alice to grow. I created another pair of illustrations with a pretty little bottle and cake inspired by these images, surrounding each with a lovely patterned border. All of these illustrations allowed me to flex my imagination and story book illustration skills, and also allowed me to combine lettering and illustration into the final products.

All three of the illustrations in this series were accepted into the juried show at ICON Illustration Conference held in Kansas City, MO in June 2022.
