The Brief: To create a lettering illustration for the Columbia College Chicago Alumni group featuring hand-drawn lettering and illustration for a custom sticker design
Role: Illustrator responsible for concept, design, and implementation of all lettering and illustration.

As an alum of Columbia College Chicago, I was excited when the Alumni group reached out to me to create a brand new sticker for their 2023 sticker giveaway. The brief was to create a fun sticker with lettering that an alum would be proud to have on their laptop or to display. Since the illustration would be mainly lettering, I created many thumbs to test out different styles, along with trying out the styles from my past work that the client referenced when reaching out to me. I chose six of these thumbs to develop into more developed sketch concepts, which I sent to the client, along with some ideas for bright and vibrant colors. After selecting the sketch to develop into a final and several color palettes, I finalized the lettering illustration and tried out four different color palette options. In the end, the client chose a bright version that really shines. I’m proud to have created this illustration for a custom sticker for my former school and will be sticking it somewhere prominent to show it off!
First step for this custom sticker design was to create a bunch of small thumbnails of the lettering composition so that I could determine what might work best to suit the client brief.
Lettering sketches for the client. I selected four of my thumbnail sketches to create bigger and further develop to give to the client. These are drawn in black and white until color palettes are chosen.
Final sticker lettering with color variations. Once the client chose one sketch, I fine-tuned the lettering and drew it more precisely, finished the background, and created color palette variations based on the colors they chose.
